First chakra: Muladhara

I've thought long and hard about this first lesson. It made me realise the root chakra is a weak one for me. I've had a rough year this past year and this has affected my health. I've also always been very ungrounded, unstable and insecure. So I made this painting/drawing for me to have a visualisation of what I want to accomplish. I am working very hard on getting everything back in order and stabilizing my life (especially my "mental health" and stability), hoping I will eventually come out stronger!
I drew her naked, to show my own vulnerability, but that it's ok to be vulnerable. To open yourself up for new experiences and let things happen to you. I find those things very difficult and scary.

Look at what I made for this first lesson here.

Hello!

Here we are: A brand new blog (one of the many) about (Zen)tangle/line weaving and my journey exploring this wonderful artform.
I won't call myself a regular blogger (or a regular tangler), but I do want a place to show the things I create, expecially since I'm planning on participating in several online tangle challenges (and there are many!).

The Zentangle(R) method was created by Maria Thomas and Rick Roberts. Check out Zentangle.com to find out all about it! There you can also find a list of all CZT's (Certified Zentangle Teacher) and search for one in your country.

There are a few rules to the official Zentangle(R), though. You use a specific size of paper (a tile) and there are specific steps to create your tangle. You always start with a string* for example. They say it helps you focus on the drawing instead of the layout and where to start.
All pieces of art that have tangle patterns in it, but are not created in the Zentangle(R) method, are called ZIA's, or Zentangle Inspired Art. You can find loads of examples if you google a bit and you will find some of my work here as well.
I never followed a Zentangle(R) class, but it's one of the many things on my wishlist.

Some sites definitely worth taking a look at if you want to start line weaving/tangling yourself:

- tanglepatterns.com is a terrific site made by Linda Farmer. She has gathered a LOT of different patterns on there, all with how-to-steps!
- I am the diva is Laura's blog. She posts a new challenge every Monday.
- The bright owl is another challenge blog. Erin posts zendala* dares every week.
- Lineweaving.com is a line weaving forum filled with lots of lovely people. They also have a very extended pattern library and host wonderful art swaps.
- Timeless rituals is a blog where I'll be following the online ChakrArt workshop. Please feel free to join me!

* A string is a guideline you draw in pencil. Afterwards you fill in the spaces you created with patterns.
* Zendala is a mandala you fill with patterns!

I hope you'll enjoy yourself here and please feel free to comment on any of the posts I make :)
